Travel with Pets

Cats and dogs – are welcome a board Northumberland Ferries with the following travel options.

Exception: Documented service animals on-leash are permitted on the interior passenger deck.

In-Vehicle

Your furry friend remains in the vehicle.

In-Kennel

Your dog stays in a kennel on the vehicle deck (pre-booking required, subject to availability).

With You

Your cat remains with you in a portable carrier.
Your dog remains with you on-leash on the exterior passenger decks.
You and your furry friend enjoy the voyage in the Pet Friendly Lounge aboard MV Confederation (pre-booking required, subject to availability).

Pet Friendly Lounge

Enjoy a designated pet friendly space on MV Confederation (E Deck forward lounge). Pet owners have access to four interior kennels and a water fountain. As this space welcomes passengers with and without pets, pet owners must adhere to our Pet Policy during the voyage.

Note: Pet Friendly Lounge not available on MV Saaremaa.

At the Terminal/Before Your Voyage

Ensure your pet has had a visit to the relief area. Designated outdoor pet relief areas are available at the Wood Islands and Caribou terminals – look for the signs.
Waste bags are provided – please pick-up after your furry friend!
Dogs can enjoy leash-free play and a chance to stretch their paws by visiting our grassy, fenced-in Dog Park, located at Wood Islands.
Bring adequate food and water.
Ensure access to fresh air. If your pet is staying in the vehicle – roll down the windows.

On Board Health & Safety

Safety regulations require all passengers to proceed to the passenger deck for the duration of the voyage. Crew members will monitor the vehicle deck and will initiate an announcement in the event a pet appears uncomfortable. NFL cannot guarantee that crew members will be able to observe or identify any or all circumstances where a pet is uncomfortable or in distress.
Furry friends are prohibited in food service areas.
