Northumberland Ferries Limited updates MV Saaremaa I’s return to service.

CHARLOTTETOWN – Jeff Joyce, Vice President of Marine Operations and General Manager of Northumberland Ferries Limited (NFL), is issuing the following statement concerning the status of MV Saaremaa I, operating the Prince Edward Island-Nova Scotia ferry service:

“MV Saaremaa I’s repairs to the #3 main engine are continuing through the weekend and Monday with final testing to be conducted Monday night and Tuesday. Provided that the subsequent inspection and certification of the repairs are successful, MV Saaremaa I will begin service from Caribou Wednesday morning with the 0830 departure and will then operate on the expanded four-trip schedule. This schedule includes departures from Wood Islands at: 0700 (beginning Thursday October 3), 1000, 1500, 1800 and departures from Caribou at: 0830, 1145, 1630, and 1930."

"MV Confederation’s bow visor repairs continue in Pictou, NS. An update will be provided as to the schedule for the repair once it has been finalized by the shipyard, which is expected to be Monday. We recognize the impact this situation has had and will continue to have on our customers through this lengthy delay of service. We apologize for the disruption it is causing. We will continue to do all we can to fast track the repairs to be back in service as soon as possible.”

NFL will issue further updates as and when changes to the expected return to service date occur. Updates will also be provided at our website www.ferries.ca when further information becomes available.
